| Who we are
We are a senior- and beginner- friendly group of computer users, not geeks or gurus, who would like to help you get more out of your IBM-compatible personal computer. We offer meetings, newsletters, this website and more. Please check us out.
The Hobart Computer Users Group Inc. began life in 1984 as the Tandy Hobart Users Group and, as members' computers changed, underwent a number of name changes. Along the way it merged with the CP/M Users Group and absorbed the remnants of the Personal Computer Users Group, which had started life as the Southern Tasmanian Amstrad Club.
History
For a full history of our Group, compiled by former President John James with additions by the Late Webmaster and Editor Peter Campbell, please click on the Group history button at left.
Where we are
We are based in Hobart, Tasmania, the Island State of Australia, located to the south-east of the mainland. You could say we are "down under Down Under"! However, through this website, our electronic newsletters, and our email list, we extend our services to English-speaking people anywhere in the world.
For a look at the beautiful part of the world in which we live, please click on the Tasmanian Profile button.
Meetings
We currently meet once a month except January. For details, see Meeting details button on the left. Our usual meeting time is 8.00 pm on the second Tuesday of the month. Meetings are held in the G A Wood Hall behind Scots Memorial Church, 29 Bathurst Street, Hobart, unless otherwise advertised. See Meeting details for a map showing how to get there.
